Ready to go packaging materials
At Rushcutters Self Storage, we stock a variety of packaging materials to help you protect and maintain your belongings for storage and transportation.
Don't risk re-using old boxes
Weak, worn, or out-of-shape boxes can sometimes tip or collapse, and are particularly unsuitable for long transits or frequent moves. To offer your goods the best protection, both while moving and while in self storage, it's wise to invest in sturdy boxes and packaging materials which are especially made for stacking and storing.
We stock:
- cartons of all sizes
- book boxes
- tea chests
- archive boxes
- picture mirrors
- porta-robes
- packaging tape and guns
- bubble wrap
- mattress protection covers
- butchers paper
- padlocks
To get more out of self storage, it's a good idea to complete as much of the packing process before you commit to a unit size.
Packing tips before you store
- Disassemble everything you can before they go into self storage, particularly large items like tables and bed frames. Also remove the wheels where possible. To stay organised, use tape to attach the nuts and bolts with the furniture they belong to.
- Always use bubble wrap when packing fragile items, and make sure they sit snugly in the box. Don't forget to mark these breakable boxes as "fragile" as you go.
- Fill all your containers to capacity and not more. Cartons which are too full or bulge are more liable to tip over or collapse while in storage.
- Pack heavy items in smaller boxes to ensure they are easy to lift. It's also a great idea to mark heavier boxes with their weight, to avoid injury.
- Label every box with its contents, the date and the room it came from.
Inside the self storage unit
- When you start storing, fill your storage unit from the back so that the front can be utilised for odd-shaped items.
- Group similar items together, and where possible try to store room-specific boxes together.
- Utilise all the space inside your self storage unit, including height. Store long items vertically.
- When stacking, place heavier boxes at the bottom and lighter items toward the top of the unit. Fragile items should also be placed near the top.
- Don't forget to take home a list of every item you store and their whereabouts, so you can locate them later on.
